STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE PREVENTION OF ELDER ABUSE
WELCOMING THE NEW EDITOR AND ASSOCIATE EDITOR OF THE JOURNAL OF ELDER ABUSE & NEGLECT
The National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse & Neglect (NCPEA) is very pleased that Karen Stein, PhD, and Sharon Merriman-Nai, MA, of the University of Delaware, have been named Editor and Associate Editor respectively of the Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect (JEAN). Both have long histories in the field of elder abuse and deep commitment to promoting quality, relevant research, policy, and practice in it. I first met Karen in 1990 when she coordinated a panel in Savannah, Georgia on behalf of the National Aging Resource Center on Elder Abuse to develop A National Research Agenda on Elder Abuse and Neglect. That Agenda later was published in JEAN. I was impressed then by Karen’s broad understanding of the problem and her passion for an interdisciplinary approach in responding to it. Like so many others, since that time I have benefited from the rich holdings of the Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly (CANE), which has greatly expanded under Karen and Sharon’s direction, and from the many projects they undertook as partners in various iterations of the National Center on Elder Abuse. I have no doubt that they will bring this knowledge and dedication to JEAN, enabling the journal to remain a premier scholarly source of cutting-edge information on the abuse and neglect of older people and adults with disabilities.
